In 1997, Volvo introduced the V70 as the replacement for the 850 series. At first there was to be no direct successor to the T5R, but following the success of that model Volvo again developed a high-performance version. The result was the V70R, offered in both saloon and sport wagon editions.

The V70R was available in colours including Black Stone, Nautic Blue Pearl, Silver Metallic, Venetian Red Pearl, and Saffron. The interior was fitted with sport seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara, Alcantara door panels, a two-tone leather steering wheel, stainless kick plates, and “R” branded mats. A 200-watt amplifier and optional in-dash CD player were also available.

Power came from the 2.3-litre B5234T5 five-cylinder turbo engine, with automatic versions producing slightly less torque than the manual cars. Uprated brakes and suspension distinguished the R from the standard V70 range.

This vehicle is an ideal investment opportunity. Classic performance Volvos such as the V70R have continued to increase in value. You could put this car away and your money will grow. In the current financial climate, classic cars represent a stronger investment than property.

This 1998 Volvo V70R represents a rare opportunity to own a classic performance Volvo at a lower entry point.
